Kentucky: A Brief Profile
The state of Kentucky has a wild and glorious history of exploration and discovery by various groups of people. The first settlers in Kentucky were the ancient Indians who explored the lands and hunted in the thick forests of the state. Even though Kentucky is located in the East Central of United States of America, it is geographically and culturally included in the Midwest.
Like many Midwest states, Kentucky is largely a farmland, major crops being tobacco, corn and soybeans. Kentucky has acres of rich grasslands that are favorable for breeding horses. Many of the people moving to Kentucky have been awed by the sight of horses grazing freely in the fields. The Kentucky State derby is the oldest horse race in the US. It is held in May each year. The long grass that covers the rolling hills o0f Kentucky is know as bluegrass and is found on the lawns of many houses throughout the state.
Major attractions in Kentucky include the world's longest cave system, miles of navigable waterways and streams and the two largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River. Stay away from the caves if you are afraid of the dark, coz you will not be the only one in the dark underground caves. The caves house more than 200 species of animals.
